Elephant Country’s Lakadong Turmeric is sourced from the farms of Trinity Saioo, better known as Turmeric Trinity. She is a school teacher and farmer from Meghalaya, India in the Eastern Himalayas, who has pioneered and spearheaded the country’s women-led turmeric farming movement and popularised the indigenous ‘Lakadong’ variety of high curcumin turmeric.
Trinity Saioo was honoured with Padma Shri in 2020 by the Government of India and the Balipara Foundation Award in 2020 by the Balipara Foundation.
