It was back in 1999 that the venerable Bermiok Rinpochè (a Buddhist reincarnate) commenced
developing this tea garden for the people of his village in South Sikkim to have access to a means of a
sustainable livelihood.
It has been a long and arduous journey for a family run private enterprise. From manually clearing a
forest, bio-dynamically preparing its soil, planting thousands of saplings on steep terrains, caring
organically for the plants for years until they were mature enough to harvest, to finally fabricating a
micro tea processing unit on-site without a motor-able road!
This is a story of moving forward in adversity and pursuing an audacious vision.
After two decades of existence, Bermiok Tea is categorised as one of the youngest and smallest
estates in India and the only other the tea garden in Sikkim that is recognised by the Tea Board of
India.
Today when fine tea purveyors are selecting Bermiok Tea alongside the best in the country, we know
our goal to have our remote hamlet known to tea connoisseurs across the world and make Sikkim
proud, is not unattainable.
We thank you for your support and hope you enjoy our teas.
