Saffron has been used in Indian society for thousands of years as not only a rare spice but also as medication to help combat several health ailments including ulcers, high blood pressure, hepatitis, cancer, anxiety and even depression. Perhaps one of the most exciting uses of saffron is its potential to be an antioxidant containing powerful anti-cancerous properties.

Pure and fragrant

Being one of the most expensive spices in the world, Kesar is also one of the widely adultered spices. I bought this saffron from My Pahadi Dukan and the first thing I did was to conduct a water test. When I opened the pack, there was a nice fragrance to it, which was missing from the pack I had purchased from Ladakh. I put a few strands in water and within seconds, the strands produced a beautiful yellow colour. Since then, drinking a glass of saffron milk has become a routine.
