Chaulai is a homegrown pseudo-cereal generally cultivated in the higher Himalayan regions of Uttaranchal. Chaulai generally grows well under rainfed conditions and it remains a staple diet for mountain inhabitants. Considered to be rich in calcium and phosphorous, Chaulai is commonly consumed as ladoos, Rotis and halwas.
